You're growing a person, you definitely deserve a LABOR DAY gift (or 12)
When I work with private doula clients I walk each of them through a specific set of prep items - the stuff that actually matters and makes life easier in the first days and weeks. Over the next 12 days, I'm giving you the same walkthrough. Every day I'll hand you one tool I use with my private clients. One day at a time (with a free gift every day π). Think of this as the virtual version of me sitting on your couch having our before baby meeting. Here's what a decade of working overnights with brand new parents has taught me... Prep before baby makes the newborn stage SO.MUCH.EASIER. β This way you're not second guessing everything β You're not freaking out or anxiously googling something that is actually very typical for a newborn (like weird colored poops, congestion sounds, flaky skin) β Less guessing. β Intentionally building milk supply. β Longer stretches of sleep (yes, even in the newborn stage). Alright. Day 1 starts now. π ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- π YOUR DAY 1 GIFT: This is the big-picture roadmap I walk every doula client through before their baby arrives. Here's the pattern I see constantly. I spent a full two weeks picking out my stroller when I was pregnant with my first. Nobody told me the things that actually matter. This Blueprint is the roadmap I wish I had. It covers things most first-time parents haven't even thought about yet (hint: most of it has nothing to do with the nursery). And it lays out the order of operations so nothing gets left until the last minute. π CLICK HERE to grab your Prepared for Baby Blueprint π Print it, save it, screenshot it. You don't need to tackle everything tonight. Just knowing what's on the list is the win. π€ NEWBORN NUGGET >>Here's something most new parents get backwards<< Most first time parents think the order goes like this.... FIRST - baby cries THEN - you figure out what baby needs. Nope. You can actually skip the crying a lot of the time. π Crying is a late cue. Babies communicate way before they cry. Tiny signals that are easy to miss if nobody taught you what to look for. When my doula clients learn to read those early cues: ππΌ they feed before baby is frantic. ππΌ they get baby down before they're overtired ππΌ their baby cries less because they know what they recognize the cues and give their baby what they are asking for before he ever starts crying. That's the difference between guessing and actually speaking your baby's language. We'll go deeper into cues over the next 12 days. ππΌ ONE SMALL THING TO DO TODAY Look at the Blueprint and see if there's anything you've already done and can check off. If not, no worries at all. Over the next 12 days we'll get some of those checked off! Iβll be back tomorrow with Day 2 (and another gift).β xoxo, Valerie Trumbower, PCD(DONA), CLC Certified Postpartum Doula, Certified Lactation Counselor P.S. know any other moms-to-be due this fall or winter? As this Countdown to Labor Day Series ends today you should be proud of yourself! You did something most first-time parents don't. You prepared before your baby arrived. That alone puts you ahead. If you've been wondering when to start pumping, what supplies you actually need, and how to set yourself up before baby arrives, today's gift was made for you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- π YOUR DAY 12 GIFT: The Pumping Checklist A week-by-week...
Happy Saturday Reader! After a decade as a postpartum doula, I can tell you the parents who feel calmest aren't the ones with the fanciest gear. They're the ones who understand what's normal, know what to watch for, and have support lined up. π That last piece is the one people skip. Usually because it sounds nice but feels out of reach. Doula support is not as out of reach as you might think. Families make it work by... π adding a doula fund to the registry πplanning for just one or two...
Hi Reader, Quick question: Are you planning to pump at all? Even occasionally? If yes, here's something worth knowing before baby gets here: Breastmilk storage is one of those things that will constantly have you second guessing yourself. How long has this been sitting out? Is it still good? Do I toss it or do I use it? And when youβre tired, the last thing you want is to guess...or worse, waste milk you worked hard to pump. Before we get to todayβs gift, one quick tip: When you freeze milk,...
