π Helllllo Day 8! Todayβs topic is one I walk through with every family, so it's definitely something we'd chat about at our pre-baby meeting. Many first-time parents are surprised to here this: Your baby will lose some weight in the first few days. This is completely normal. But helping you feel prepared means helping you understand when doctors will worry about the weight loss. Pediatricians usually become concerned if the baby loses more than 7-10% of birth weight. Trying to calculate weight loss as a sleep deprived new parent feels like torture so I made you a chart. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- π YOUR DAY 8 GIFT: This simple chart helps you see if baby's weight is creeping near a number your doctor will be concerned about. π CLICK HERE to grab the Newborn Weight Loss Chart π π€ NEWBORN NUGGET Speaking of weight loss.... Your pediatrician might ask you to come back several times in the first weeks to check your babyβs weight. This doesn't mean they don't feel like you're competent or that there is a major issue. It means they want confirmation that baby is gaining and thriving. While you are learning about feeding and newborn cues, you may also find my free newborn sleep and feeding class helpful. Many parents take it between 15-25 weeks. You can join the free class here. ππΌ ONE SMALL THING TO DO TODAY Take a screenshot of the Weight Loss Chart and create a folder in your phone where you can save baby information you want quick access to. Having it all in one place is incredibly helpful when you are tired and moving fast. π If you're just joining the Baby Prep Advent you can get the previous days' free gifts HERE. You are learning so much already. I will see you tomorrow with another gift. π xoxo, Valerie Trumbower, PCD(DONA), CLC Certified Postpartum Doula, Certified Lactation Counselor |

That has been my goal ever since I started working as a postpartum doula more than ten years ago. One of the most common questions I'm asked in my instagram DMs is how to find a postpartum doula, so I thought I'd give you a resource to make that easier. (if you're not already following on IG click here) If your first reaction to hiring a...
Welcome to Day 11 of your Baby Prep Advent Reader! As an overnight doula, one of my favorite things to do for brand new parents is make a meal in the middle of the night so it is waiting for them in the refrigerator in the morning. Then they just have to pop it in the crockpot or oven. There's so much thought around feeding the baby, sometimes new parents forget to take care of themselves. It's like the directions they give on the airplane... you need to take care of yourself so you're able...
Itβs Day 10 of your Baby Prep Advent π And todayβs gift is one of those simple setups that makes the early weeks with a newborn feel much more manageable. Diaper changes happen all day and all night, which is why having a changing station on each floor can be so helpful. You'll be so glad to have what you need, where you need it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- π YOUR DAY 10 GIFT: The Changing Station This checklist walks you through exactly...
