Itโs Day 3 of your Baby Prep Advent ๐ If youโre having a winter or early spring baby, it can feel like all anyone is talking about right now is how much the flu is going around. Itโs completely normal to wonder what that means for you and your newborn in those first weeks at home. Basic things like asking visitors to wash their hands as soon as they arrive (not just use hand sanitizer) and skipping visits if someone isnโt feeling well can go a long way in limiting exposure. And if, even with those precautions, you find yourself starting to feel run down, this might help. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ๐ YOUR DAY 3 GIFT: This recipe is on repeat in our house in the winter months. The moment someone in our family feels the first signs of a sickness it's our go-to. I truly feel like this recipe has helped us avoid so many illnesses over the years. And, it's what I bring to doula clients if they text and say they are starting to feel a cold or sore throat coming on. Because the last thing new parents need is to get sick. ๐ CLICK HERE to grab the Wellness Elixir Recipe ๐ Of course, this isnโt a replacement for medical care. Always see your doctor if you feel like you need to, but I hope this saves you a few trips, just like it has for us. ๐ค NEWBORN NUGGET Sounding congested is very normal for a newborn. t's completely normal for your baby to sneeze or sound congested in the first weeks as he clears out that fluid. Your baby has spent months living in fluid. The trip through the birth canal helps to clear some of this fluid out but sneezes in the first weeks are normal. Babies born via c-section might have more 'congestion' than a baby born vaginally since they didn't take that trip through the birth canal. I talk to my doula clients a lot about what typical newborn behavior is. When you know to expect things like congestion it's not as scary when it happens. I talk more about typical newborn behavior here. ๐๐ผ ONE SMALL THING TO DO TODAY Start thinking about what you want the first month at home to look like when it comes to visitors. People will be excited to meet your baby, but itโs okay to ask them to wait a few weeks. Having time to settle into feeding, rest, and bond, without feeling like youโre hosting, can make a huge difference. Hi Reader, It's the final day of your Baby Prep Advent ๐ I hope the past 12 days have given you resources that make life with your new baby go more smoothly. That has been my goal ever since I started working as a postpartum doula more than ten years ago. One of the most common questions I'm asked in my instagram DMs is how to find a postpartum doula, so I thought I'd give you a resource to make that easier. (if you're not already following on IG click here) If your first reaction to hiring a...
Welcome to Day 11 of your Baby Prep Advent Reader! As an overnight doula, one of my favorite things to do for brand new parents is make a meal in the middle of the night so it is waiting for them in the refrigerator in the morning. Then they just have to pop it in the crockpot or oven. There's so much thought around feeding the baby, sometimes new parents forget to take care of themselves. It's like the directions they give on the airplane... you need to take care of yourself so you're able...
Itโs Day 10 of your Baby Prep Advent ๐ And todayโs gift is one of those simple setups that makes the early weeks with a newborn feel much more manageable. Diaper changes happen all day and all night, which is why having a changing station on each floor can be so helpful. You'll be so glad to have what you need, where you need it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ๐ YOUR DAY 10 GIFT: The Changing Station This checklist walks you through exactly...
