Day 4 Gift: Hospital Bag Checklist 🎁

Hi friend,

I'm back with Day 4 of your Baby Prep Advent!

Our family loves to travel and before every trip a packing list circulates through the house. It's usually on a piece of copy paper and each person checks off as they pack and then passes the list along to the next person.

Without the list we'd forget things like retainers and contacts.

So today my gift to you is a hospital bag checklist.

🎁 YOUR DAY 4 GIFT:

Hospital Bag Checklist

Some of my doula clients have their bag packed right at the 36 week mark, others are packing it between contractions.

I always recommend starting to pack early and keeping a notes file of what you want to throw in before you leave - like medications or your glasses.

I've included a section for your partner too. If he/she can stay with you at the hospital that would be best.

You won't see diapers, formula or a swaddle on that list. Anything you need for the baby (except for the outfit to come home) will be provided by the hospital.

πŸ€” NEWBORN NUGGET

"Can I send you a picture of his diaper?"

Doula clients ask this all the time.

Newborn poop looks nothing like what most people are expecting and it changes a lot, especially in the first week.

Your baby's first poop is called meconium. It's black and has the consistency of tar. After that it usually transitions to yellow or greenish and is often very runny, Don't be alarmed if it looks like diarrhea.

πŸ™ŒπŸΌ ONE SMALL THING TO DO TODAY

Print out or screenshot The Hospital Bag Checklist and start to think about what bag you're going to use.

Some people use a small rollerboard suitcase, other people prefer a duffel bag. Just start to think about if you have what you're going to use or if it's something you need to buy.

Hi Reader, It's the final day of your Baby Prep Advent 🎁 I hope the past 12 days have given you resources that make life with your new baby go more smoothly. That has been my goal ever since I started working as a postpartum doula more than ten years ago. One of the most common questions I'm asked in my instagram DMs is how to find a postpartum doula, so I thought I'd give you a resource to make that easier. (if you're not already following on IG click here) If your first reaction to hiring a...

Welcome to Day 11 of your Baby Prep Advent Reader! As an overnight doula, one of my favorite things to do for brand new parents is make a meal in the middle of the night so it is waiting for them in the refrigerator in the morning. Then they just have to pop it in the crockpot or oven. There's so much thought around feeding the baby, sometimes new parents forget to take care of themselves. It's like the directions they give on the airplane... you need to take care of yourself so you're able...

It’s Day 10 of your Baby Prep Advent 🎁 And today’s gift is one of those simple setups that makes the early weeks with a newborn feel much more manageable. Diaper changes happen all day and all night, which is why having a changing station on each floor can be so helpful. You'll be so glad to have what you need, where you need it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 🎁 YOUR DAY 10 GIFT: The Changing Station This checklist walks you through exactly...
